Super-water-repellent surfaces produced by injection molding of polypropylene resin and their application to household resin products

In this study, we attempted to impart super-water-repellency to the product surface by injection molding of polypropylene resin while simultaneously molding the resin of the product housing. In this paper, we
investigated the possibility of achieving super-water-repellency with a contact angle of more than 150° by using a shape and dimensions on the order of micrometers in terms of water-repellency expressed by a surface
uneven structure . As a result, we confirmed that it is possible to achieve a contact angle of more than 150° on the product surface by injection molding of polypropylene by optimizing the dimensions of the convex height,
the pitch between the convexities, and the curvature radius of the convex tips.
Next, we investigated the improvement of abrasion resistance, which is one of the issues for application to household resin products.
It was confirmed that a contact angle of 130° and wear resistance could be achieved at the same time by setting the R at 5.0 ÿm.
This resulted in the development of a household wood panel with a high water repellency of over 130°, which could not be achieved by adding water repellents to resins or coatings.
It is expected that this will be used in oil products.
